Rodrigo Villagran

Rodrigo is currently a PhD Candidate at the University of Cologne at the Institute for International Peace and Security Law. He holds a Law degree from Rafael Landivar University in Guatemala and a Masters Degree in International Law and Politics from Francisco Marroquín University from Guatemala.

Prior to the commencement of his PhD studies in Cologne, he served as the Executive Director of the Presidential Commission of Human Rights of Guatemala. During that time, he was also appointed as the State Agent of Guatemala before the Inter-American Court and Inter American Commission of Human Rights where he appeared in several cases defending the State and presenting its position before such human rights institutions. Additional to his professional activities, Rodrigo has also lectured in Public International Law, Constitutional Law and Private International Law at the Mariano Gálvez University of Guatemala.

In his dissertation Rodrigo examines the Guatemalan peace process and the new developments that have arisen after the implementation of the Guatemalan Peace Accords.
